Content Request Form

A content request form has to stop briefs arriving as one-line Slack messages. Format, audience, purpose, keyword and deadline - the five things a writer cannot start without.

For agencies, studios and marketing teams.

A writer needs the audience and the action

"Write us a blog post about our new feature" is not a brief. A writer needs to know who is reading it, what they currently believe, and what they should do at the end. Without those three, the piece gets written to a guess and rewritten twice.

So this template makes audience and desired action required fields, and asks for the target keyword and the internal links wanted. Those turn a vague request into something that can be written once and published.

Take orders while you're working

You can't answer the phone with your hands full, and the person calling won't wait. A form takes the order at 11pm on a Sunday and has it waiting when you open.

A brief that doesn't need a briefing

Clients describe outcomes; you need inputs. Objective, audience, deadline, budget, who signs it off - asking for those in a fixed order turns a vague request into a scope you can staff.

It's also the fastest way to spot the project that isn't ready: no budget, no deadline, four decision-makers. Better to know before the kick-off call.

One place to check what's due

Every order lands in one list, timestamped, filterable and exportable. No scrolling back through a chat thread to find out what Tuesday looks like.

Yours to change, immediately

Nothing here is fixed. Rewrite a question, reorder them by dragging, add your brand colour, delete half of it. Save and the live form updates - there's no separate publish step and no deploy to wait for.

Questions

Who should fill this in - the client or the account team?

Either, and both work better than a conversation. Many agencies send it to clients directly, which pushes the thinking upstream where it belongs.

Should I ask for a word count?

Ask for a range or a purpose-led answer. An exact number invites padding; "long enough to answer the question properly" invites drift. A range is the compromise.

Can I take payment on the form?

Not yet. Most people use this to capture the order and then invoice or take payment on collection - which also means you can confirm availability before charging anyone.

Can I limit what people can order?

Yes. Options are lists you control, so only what you actually sell appears - and you can close the form when you're at capacity.

Will I be told about new orders straight away?

Yes, if you turn on live notifications: each order is emailed to you as it arrives. Otherwise they collect in your dashboard.

Can I use a different form per service?

Yes - duplicate the template and edit each copy, so a paid-media enquiry asks different questions from a brand project. Each has its own link and its own list of responses.
